studio according to the list I sent Your
Lordship is safe in my house with the
two brazen statues and in the removing
nothing hath suffered but a little statue
of a Hercules, which will be easily accom-
modated, but to recompense that loss,
two heads by the negligence of the
owners are brought hither, which are
not in the list. The want of the
King’s list hath been of some preju-
dice to Your Lordship, in my not including,
for want of due knowledge, some pieces
of value which Mr Petty now remembers
to have seen at La Nave’s, though
when I carried [i.e. took] him this last summer
to assist me in the bargain, he
made no mention at all of them; the
reason whereof I find since to be
his treating formerly with La Nave
to separate those two statues
of brass with a ritratto of Corr-
egio, or of Leonardo da Vinci, promi-
sing to assist him in the selling
thereof at as high a rate, as if they

should be added unto it, in case he might
buy those laid aside at a low rate, or as I rather
believe, have them in recompense;
in lieu whereof he hath found no other
reward, but an extraordinary mirth
I took at his choler expressed at
the news of the conclusion of the
bargain, and the pains and plots
he used to break it. I was no
less pleased this morning at the dis-
order he was in at my telling him
of my agreeing likewise with Pro-
curator Priuli for his pictures
for which, with the addition of some others
not mentioned in my former, I have
promised 4500 ordinary ducats, and a hun-
dred crowns, together with the charge
of returning him their copies with new
frames, which with the reward I am to
give to him who treated this business,
will arrive to 5000 ordinary ducats.
